Lou Monaco served in the Army Air Corp in the South Pacific theater, departing for Australia on January 31, 1942 and returning to the US on January 19, 1945 (2 years, 11 months, 19 days of foreign service).

As a Master Sergeant and Airplane Main Technician with the 22nd Bomb Group, 408th Squadron, he maintained B-26 Martin Marauder bombers in the Papua New Guinea, Bismarch Archipelago, Western Pacific, and Southern Philippines campaigns.  His New Guinea service overlaps with Emil B. Poiesz, Jr’s and it is likely that his unit conducted missions in support of Emil’s unit.
