Theodore Joseph Poiesz served in Europe as an Infantryman with Company H of the 345th Infantry Regiment of the 87th Infantry Division. His unit arrived in theater at the end of the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945, and was part of the last phase of the war, fighting through the Siegfried Line into Germany and eventually into Czechoslovakia, until his departure from Europe some time prior to July 17, 1945.

Ted’s late start in the service was due to his civilian work as a machinist at Westinghouse Electric, which was deemed to be critical to the war effort. He was a Technician 4th grade (T-4), equivalent to a sergeant.
